Best Ford Mustangs of 1960–1980

Ford Mustang is the most popular name among American drivers. This iconic car rolled off in the 1960s and it is still generating fans for six generations. The Mustang launched as a low-cost sports car but within a short duration, it gained the reputation of America’s Favorite Muscle Car.

In the 1980s, it didn’t showcase any high-level performance due to low-power compaction. But, a couple of years later the introduction of turbocharging skyrocketed the performance level. Finally, the Muscle Car status retained and acquired a continuous reputation rising. Drivers were fascinated to run Ford Mustang for miles to test the capacity and specifications. Moreover, the drivers drove to enjoy the smoothness of the ride. Again, it is still tough to mark the best Mustang of all time.

Mustang 298, 1964:

The Original, Mustang 298 was a revolutionary hit in the automotive industry of America. The convertible version with unique shape symbolized the freedom on the run and the independence. People were fascinated with the 298’s V8 engine. The fast and agile nature also derived everybody to love the car.

The 1964’s Mustang was produced for only 5 years though the impact was endless. The vision of producing Mustang 298 was successful. It was an every-man motorcar which is small and has an accessible performance. The super-car was so popular that Ford made 300,000 sales in the very first year which was beyond their expectation.

Ford Shelby Mustang GT500, 1967:

Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 was the advanced version of the GT350. The new Mustang was having a 428-cubic inch V8 engine and a modernized exterior look. Along with this, some mechanical enhancement took the car to high-level stats.

Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 was launched in 1967 and it grabs the attention of the car lovers. It became one of the most popular cars in the automotive industry. In an addition, a more speedy version of the GT500 was also marketed which was powered with 428 Cobra Jet V8 engines. The supper speedy version was named as ‘The King of The Road’.

In conclusion, it is a dream car for speed lovers. GT500 is unbeatable in case of car speed.

Shelby GT350, 1966:

The Shelby GT350 is a road king. It is powered by Ford GEN3 5.0Liter Ti-VCT ‘’Coyote” DOHC V8 engine. This motor has both manual and automatic transmission systems. The Shelby GT350 road crasher provides remarkable fuel mileage. This car is a magnificent example of old-craftsmanship. However, the flawless appearance of the GT350 includes durability as well.

Hence, in 1966, GT350 was lunched without the mustang tag. Still, the amazing features took it to a higher standard. GT350 provides splendid driving experience through the extensive features like adjustable Koni shocks, the fiberglass hood, and exhaust outlet with Detroit locking system.

Ford Mustang Boss 429, 1969:

This prolific road beast started its journey in 1969. This high-performance Mustang is equipped with a powerful V-8 engine and with a four-speed manual transmission. This road king is having power steering, front and rear stabilizer bars, a trunk-mounted battery, and an oil cooler, a perfect combination for a muscle car.

Hence, Boss 429 is a high-speed chaser. Still, it couldn’t get that much sale due to lower handling capacity.

King Cobra, 1978:

The 1978’s King Cobra is a perfect combination of speed and style. In some regards, the King Cobra is identical to the 1976 Mustang II. But the Cobra is far better in case of shape and features. Hence, it is equipped with a 302 cu-in V8 engine with high speeding capacity, the produced power is 136 HP.

Lastly, the King Cobra is launched as a fuel-saving runner. The rack and pinion steering methods are superior to the previous Mustangs. Also, the rear suspension feature provides some extended value.

Mustang Mach 1, 1971:

The Mustang Mach 1 was a popular car among the race drivers. People were fascinated by this running beast.

Mach 1 offers a powerful V8 engine, fun to drive car. During its launch, it was considered as a super luxurious muscle car. The handling and engaging capacity of this motor are remarkable. Again, the two-door body is appealing through speed and class.

Mustang Mach 1 is the successor of Mustang Mach Original. The 1971 Mustang Mach 1 is familiar to the world as it appears in the movie named Gone in Sixty Seconds. However, the Mach 1 is a dream car for every car collector.
